"Gezellig"?

As you guys already know, I live in The Netherlands and don’t write in Dutch but English. This because I like to make contact with people all around the world. While writing my blogposts I sometimes find words which are not translatable.  A example is the word “gezellig”.

When you translate this word you’ll get the words: Cozy, intimate, sociable, comfortable, homy. But that all isn’t really what Dutch people mean when they use the word “gezellig”. When you know Dutch people you know that they use this word very often. You can actually use it for many purposes. A place can be gezellig, if a person is gezellig it means this person is nice to be around with, an evening can be gezellig, when you had a nice time you say it was gezellig. It is more a feeling than a word.

Who of you also write your blog in a different language? If yes, do you also find some words hard to translate? And which?

Dare to dream, dare to grow, dare to be
